NEWS
Roy Wall, Guild President, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and recognizing the visitors. We had 70 members in attendance and three visitors.
Roy then opened the floor for nominations for anyone interested in being either an officer or a board member of the L.S. Wood Guild. George Gleckler was nominated to fill the board member position previously held by Shawn Waskiewicz. Randy Stone was nominated to fill the Secretary position vacated by the passing of Bill Akers, and Alan Stiles was nominated to fill the Technical Support Board Member position vacated by Randy Stone moving to Secretary. All other positions remained the same from last year and were confirmed by a unanimous vote from the membership.
Dues – John Freeland reported that he had reached out to several members who had not paid their 2024 dues to find out if they are still interested in being members of the Lee’s Summit Wood Guild. Some of those contacted are no longer able to attend, and the others confirmed they are still interested and, in fact, showed up for the November meeting. Dues are still just $20.00 for 2025.
Photos – We have 36 members for whom we don’t have a photo in our online member directory. A separate email will be sent to those 36 individuals, letting them know who they are and asking them to assist us in making sure we take their picture at the next meeting. Having a photo in the directory is important because not all our members will remember a person’s name, but they will remember what you look like and can find you in the directory, provided we have your photo.
PHIL’S FINDS
Phil put together a short video on a box-making process that is super easy and produces quality results. He has posted the short video on Facebook, and it can be found here.
PROGRAM
Three of the Guild members led separate panel discussions on how they use CNC, lasers, and 3D printing to augment their woodworking. Each of the members did a fantastic job briefing the technologies to the membership and answering the numerous questions from the members. The topics were so interesting and the questions from the membership so engaging that we were forced to skip the scheduled break at the midway point of the meeting. Some members commented that “This was one of the best presentations we have ever had.” Thank you, Dan Calvert (CNC), Bob Pressley (Laser), and Shawn Waskiewicz (3D Printing), for presenting and leading the conversations.
