The July guild meeting kicked off by honoring all the veterans in the room. Jay Helland led an introduction to a video featuring Sam Elliott reading a letter from a D-Day veteran, followed by a 7-minute video describing Omaha Beach in World War II with words written by Ray Lambert.

  • Visitors & New Members: We welcomed visitor Mitchel Baldwin and Kyle Garrel, and officially welcomed new members Susan Howe and Kelly Howe.
  • Member Classifieds & Announcements:
    • Sam has a 2-horse plunge router for sale for $100.
    • Jim Barb has a Jet tabletop lathe for sale for $450, along with a 14-inch Powermatic bandsaw, a 3-horse shaper, and a mortiser from John Steinheiser.
  • Field Trip Recap: Jim Barb recapped a recent field trip to the Don Arndt sawmill in Napoleon, Missouri, noting they have a massive CNC with a 10 HP 3-phase motor, plenty of walnut, and almost everything else a woodworker could want.
  • Help Send an Airman home for the holidays: Randy Stone briefed to the membership about an opportunity for guild members to donate to a great cause.
    • Whiteman AFB Community Council Bomber Ball: We have an opportunity to support the Whiteman AFB Community Council’s annual Bomber Ball—a black-tie fundraising dinner scheduled for November 7th that helps send young, deserving airmen home for the holidays.
    • How the Guild Can Help: Members are encouraged to use their woodworking talents to create and donate handcrafted items for the event’s auction.
    • Donation Requirements: All donated items must have a minimum retail value of $200 (patriotic-themed items are preferred but not required) and must be received no later than October 7th.

A friendly reminder: 2026 Guild Dues are still being collected. At only $20 per year, membership offers incredible value and helps support our monthly programs.

Glue Bottle Applicator Kit: This month, Phil highlighted a glue bottle applicator kit from Rockler, available for $15.99. See it on the Rockler website HERE.

Featured Presentation: Jeff Phillipi from Rockler presented to the guild. Rockler is a family-owned business headquartered in Minnesota with 44 total stores, including a new location in Oklahoma City. While historically known as a hardware store, they are currently reducing their hardware selection to focus more heavily on hardwoods and jigs.

Discounts & Ordering: Rockler offers a 10% discount on items that do not have a cord and are not already on sale. Additionally, if you are looking to buy a tool that is not currently in stock at the local store, you can order it to be shipped directly to the store to save on shipping costs.

  • Product Lines & New Releases: Festool is a major seller for them, and they have a new line of cordless tools coming out. Kreg has released a new tool called the “Edge,” which is anticipated to be a competitor to the Domino; a Kreg representative will be visiting the store on the 15th to bring in new tools. Furthermore, Oliver tools are now available online, Veritas hand planes are newly carried in stock, and they are bringing Dremel tools back as well.
  • Jig Submissions: If you have an idea for a woodworking jig, you can submit it to customer service or to Jeff at the store for a chance to have Rockler develop and manufacture it as a new product. Their most recent table saw sled product has been a massive hit.

A quick reminder to all members: please get with Phil, Alan or Randy to get your photo taken for the online member directory so we can keep our contact and profile records up to date.

This month’s meeting featured fantastic projects shared by our members during the Show and Tell session. The items can be viewed HERE or by going to the guild Facebook link at the bottom of the page.
