What a treat it was to attend this month’s guild meeting, which featured student projects from Lee’s Summit North High School and their teachers (Cameron Clover and Cody Cantrell). The young men presented segmented bowls by Colton Skaggs and a ukulele made by Blade Sbisa.  In addition, several members brought in projects for “Show and Tell”.   Jim McCord presented 3 beautiful boxes that he donated to the guild which were auctioned off during the meeting.  Thanks Jim for your generosity!   There was some fierce bidding between several members but especially between Bob Pressly and Dale Chapman. Between the donations and the raffle, over $400 was raised for the “Tools for Teens” program.  Members who made donations should ask Bill Akers for a receipt.  Enough funds have now been raised to cover the cost of this year’s gifts to the schools.  All the projects this month were well done but special recognition for the outstanding workmanship shown in the inlay box constructed by Curt Tyhurst.

At the conclusion of the auction, Dale Chapman presented the boxes for Mother’s Day to three of mothers who were in attendance.  Nice gesture Doctor Dale!!

This month breakout presentations were by Steven Todd and Mike Shaw.  Steven demonstrated how to navigate our website and Mike showed techniques for creating a Celtic knot for pen making.  Thanks very much guys for making these presentations!!

Last but not least, thanks to John Kuiper for filming the meeting so that the Show and Tell and demonstrations can be projected up the screen so that we call see what is going and to all who arrive early to set up and stay late to tear down.

Respectfully,

Jay S. Helland
